Bonchurch
Unchanged by time, Bonchurch is situated half a mile from Ventnor and three miles from Shanklin. Famous for its past literary residents, Dickens, Swinburne and Shaw, it also has the well known landslip walk starting in the village - and not forgetting the picturesque pond, a place to watch the ducks and fish lead their uncomplicated lives to the amusement of the visitors and holidaymakers alike.
The Village
Modern day Bonchurch has a pub, blacksmith and a small working repair garage.
We also have an 'old' red telephone box in the village.
Our Pub, The Bonchurch Inn offers a good
selection of food on their Menu with an Italian slant.
We also have The Pond Café the sister restaurant
to the Michelin starred Hambrough restaurant offering fine dining.
We have two Churches, one of which is reputedly the smallest eleventh century Norman church in the country.
Bonchurch Beach
Our quiet beach, just 400 yards from the hotel, has no amusement arcades, burger bars or hotdog stands. With a sand and shingle beach, you get a real bit of old fashioned England. There is no traffic, and you can take the flat walkway right through to Ventnor Esplanade where there are a variety of places offering drinks and something to eat.
There is excellent walking along the coast or across the downs, and the famous Landslip walk starts in Bonchurch itself.
